About Us

SeaXplorer is owned and operated by Paul & Jill Mills.  Jill is deputy head teacher at the local High School and she and Paul have two teenage children.

Paul is a highly qualified outdoors instructor and spent 14 years working with the MOD, training and assessing service personnel in this field.  Imparting his skills in leadership, guiding, mountaineering, kayaking, canoeing, skiing and coaching took him all over the world but in 2010 he decided to start his own business to spend more time with his family.

Paul and Jill are keen outdoor enthusiasts and they wanted to build a business which would allow them to spend time in this environment and make use of Paul’s extensive skills. Combining their love of wildlife and nature with using fast boats to enable access to hidden places and the ability to observe, gain knowledge and educate from a platform not normally readily available was the ideal business opportunity. Working in an area of such scenic beauty –  a tourism hotspot –  SeaXplorer was born!

Originally from the outskirts of Glasgow Paul moved to Glencoe in 1984 to teach sailing at the local outdoor centre. Since that first introduction to the outdoors many qualifications were gained, RYA Senior Dingy Instructor, RYA Powerboat Instructor, RYA Yachtmaster offshore Commercial, RYA Advanced Powerboat Commercial, Mountaineering Instructors Certificate (MIC), British Associtaion of Snowsport Instructors (BASI) International Ski Teacher Alpine and Nordic, BASI Trainer, BCU Level 5 Coach Kayak, BCU Level 4 Coach Sea, BCU Level 4 Coach open canoe, BCU White water safety and rescue trainer, BCU National Trainer. Emergency Medical Technician first aid and 25 years with Glencoe Mountain rescue.

“At SeaXplorer our ambition is to deliver a personal and interactive experience with the landscape, wildlife, history and folklore of Glencoe, Fort William, Lochaber and Oban. We are continually researching and looking for new information about the animals, environment and history to offer more each trip.”

~ says Paul.

“Our skippers are all highly qualified, experienced, very knowledgeable and hopefully entertaining as well!”

~ adds Jill.

Their scheduled trips offer intimate experiences with the landscape and wildlife as well as the history on the 1 and 2 hour trips but they also offer bespoke trips as well as day trips to Oban and Tobermory on Mull.
